Talking CLOSE, please

PLEASE CLOSE THIS THREAD. I'm really sick of people who can't understand that this is just for FUN with H/H and that I didn't expect anything spectacular. Very few people were actually contributing, and now it's full of people telling me only how "bad" of an idea this is. ((For the record, I didn't expect to get any build out of it that was more than merely "usable" or "good enough" for H/H.))

I've been playing my Necromancer since I started playing Guild Wars (Almost 27 months) and she's my favorite character. I'd really like to incorporate a pet into a good build. ((Good enough to have fun, not to use with other people.))

Please, don't call me "noob" or anything, because I KNOW that a Necromancer pet build is unorthodox (YES, I know it's not a good idea!). That doesn't stop me from wanting one, though. I would like some suggestions. Can anyone think of any possible skillset for what I want?.

I'm looking for help with this, because I honestly can't think of anything good (enough) that I can use. Thanks.

Yeah, the reason you can't think of anything good is because there really isn't anything good about a necromancer with a pet. Soul Reaping and being a beast master don't really have any synergy at all. A N/R beastmaster would waste the incredible potential of a Curses necro or MM. It's more than unorthodox; it's just baed.

If you want to go ahead with it, that's your decision, of course, but don't expect such a build to be good. I'm not trying to be rude, just blunt.

Well.... If you insist on having a pet in your build.... You might want to try something like this:

[build prof=N/R Soul=10+1 Curses=10+1+1 Beast=11][Barbs][Mark of Pain][Great Dwarf Weapon][Feral Aggression][You Move Like a Dwarf][Heal As One][Signet of Lost Souls][Charm Animal][/build]

I think it'll work, just tossed something together.

Edit1: Also, you may want to bring a spear to aid in triggering Barbs+MoP.

Edit2: Depending on what you're facing, or who you're with, you may want to consider other elites. [Spiteful Spirit] is always good, [Corrupt Enchantment] to remove pesky blocking enchants, or Mark of Protection in some cases. [Icy Veins] would be a good option for some AoE, the list goes on, [Call of Haste] may be a better option in place of [Feral Aggression], as well.

all the suggestions above are "better on a Ranger primary"...
Necro Beast Master is just bad, that's why you can't really find a good build for it...
there's a very thin line between unorthodoxy and stupidity and the build you want crosses that line.

Now, now. There's no need to be rude. Someone wants to try something a little different. Leave 'em to it. Personally I would rather run my build on my necro than on my ranger simply because of the SR benefit, as 11 points in Expertise would be rather wasted since it only effects 2 of 7 skills, 3 of 8 if you decide to put a pet skill in the last slot.

Yeah I like to do things differently. So?

You're best bet would be something mark of pain/barbs with Call of Haste and then maybe some other buffs.

There is nothing rude about what he said at all, unless, telling someone the truth is called being rude now?

He's right, the concept lends itself in almost everyway to being much more effective on a ranger than on a necromancer, and the reason why you can't find any good builds for a N/R beastmaster is because such a thing will not exist due to the fact that being a Necromancer primary offers no advantages to the build and is infact less benficial.

Expertise is a far better primary for this build, not for it's effect but more so for the skills it offers, they will produce a far better synergy with the beast master than any other soul reaping skill.

The idea is unorthodox yes, but it's also bad and those are two things that simply do not mix.

Sorry for thinking that essentially calling someone stupid after they said they knew what they wanted wasn't the best idea is rude.

Yes, a PURE beast mastery build would work much better on a ranger, however the OP just wants to incorporate a pet into a Necromancer build, for example, in the build I posted it would work well against high AL mobs in a physical heavy team as a damage supporter, with the elite being very optional.

And besides, this is PvE, not rocket science.

I've brought a Pet along for solo quests / missions and have found this skill combo effective:
[poisonous bite][feral lunge][virulence][necrosis]

However, for general PVE, I don't find using a pet very feasible.

To all of those who are being rude, you're being reported for it.

As I ALREADY SAID, I KNOW that it's not necessarily a "good" idea. I'm just looking for something new and fun. It doesn't have to be award winning, or even to use with groups with real people. It's only for use with H/H. Obviously, if I'm going to be in a group with other people, I'm going to use a good build.

Thanks to those who are actually contributing.

I had a thought, using [You Move Like A Dwarf] with [Bestial Mauling] can cause daze, making you that much more useful against harmful casters.

Kyomi, I'm liking your ideas. I hadn't really thought about the PvE only skills, but since I don't plan on using any Necromancer pet build in PvP, things like "You Move Like a Dwarf!" with Bestial Mauling are good ideas. The build you first posted is definitely something I'll look into.

Why not just raise a pet to Dire, then put zero pints into Beast Mastery, and take a good curse bar -with Barbs, Mark of pain, Spiteful Spirit, Enfeebling Blood, reckless Haste, Rigor Mortis, Charm and Comfort Animal

If you raise it Dire, it'll take the aggro off your party, assuming you have more health than it (Or at least that's what I read somewhere, might not be completly true).

Tainted flesh could be used to spread desease, not that it's very useful in PvE, but you get the point, getting advantage of the focus mobs will do on your pet.

Ok, I'll bite. A fun build, for Necro, incorporates your favorite pet...
[Never Rampage Alone] in place of Rampage as One.
[Technobabble] daze so your friend interupts.
[Great Dwarf Weapon] for random KD fun. From the pet of course.
["Finish Him"] to...finish them..
["You Move Like a Dwarf"] for more KD goodness. Goes well with [Bestial Mauling]
Not an actual build but simply some PvE skills to consider that wont require any attributes to put into them. If you dedicate so much of your bar to your companion you may want some skills like [Otyugh's Cry] so it actually hits, [Heal as One][Companionship][Comfort Animal] for healing or [Call of Protection][Symbiotic Bond] for protection. Or make sure someone can heal/prot your pet also amongst your heroes.
This type of build leaves very little bar room for your Necromanctic skills unfortunately. Beastmasters have the same issue though. Things like [Barbs][Mark of Pain] [Necrosis] or whatnot can help. Or maybe [Well of Blood] to give your animal friend some regen. Maybe consider using a bow and just running [Distracting Shot][Savage Shot] for your skills to provide some interupts.
Just suggestions, the thought of using a pet on my necro had crossed my mind long ago, but I didn't like the options myself. This was before Heroes or pve-only skills though.
GL and HF playing with your Hyena. Just don't do it with a group of people or you could start off a host of elitist insults....somewhat deservedly though, as you already mentioned.

I hate to say it, but beastmasters (which aren't terribly good in PvE to start with) gain so much from a high BM spec that it's hard to compensate. My best guess would be to spam expensive BM and PvE skills that a ranger couldn't afford all on the same bar. Things that come to mind are [feral aggression], [brutal strike], [Melandru's Assault], [scavenger strike], [great dwarf weapon], and [ebon battle standard of honor]. (I also really like [bestial mauling] either with [you move like a dwarf] or maybe [great dwarf weapon].)

You should also take advantage of curses. [Barbs] and [Mark of Pain] should work well with a pet (though a high-rank ebon vanguard assassin would probably work better).

Finally, [Enraged Lunge] just deals huge damage, even without any necro synergy I can come up with, and [call of protection] is almost mandatory for keeping a pet alive in more challenging PvE.

I'm trying to avoid bow skills, but I was thinking Call of Haste with Barbs and Mark of Pain, probably wielding a +5/+30 spear to go with it. Mr Jack is currently playful, but I'm afraid he's on his way to becoming Elder... If that's the case, I'll catch another hyena and focus for dire. Since I'll be using Curses as my Necromancer attribute, I'll probably choose to spam Parasitic Bond across my enemies a self-heal (in addition to Ogden's heals, of course). I was having fun with Poisonous Bite and Feral Lunge with Scavenger's Strike and Vile Miasma, Ferocious Strike as the elite for e-management... I've just been testing things out solo on the little wurms outside Boreal Station, though, so I haven't tested anything against groups or with a party of H/H.
